YURY KRESTINSKIY COMMENTS:

The story of the Amphibian Man is well-known in Russia and abroad, both due to the immense success of the book (which was translated into many languages), and to the film. Both works have since become well-loved across cultures. The story combines seafaring adventure, romance, monster fantasy, water choreography, and tragedy. It is a classic Romeo and Juliet encounter, but this time in a story written by one of the best-known Russian sci-fi writers, the Mark Twain of the Soviet Union, Alexander Belyaev.

The sea – the home and world of Ichtyander – is itself one of the principal protagonists. We plan to shoot at breathtaking locations in Malta, with the help of the latest under water filming technologies provided by world-famous Mediterranean Film Studios. As Malta offers attractive incentives for foreign film makers and is highly noted and renowned for its extensive and talented craftsmanship, as demonstrated by the epic sets and props built on the island, we believe that it is the ideal location for our story.

One of the key creative elements of the film will be the visual aesthetic approach and the music, which will help us create the specific atmosphere of the beautiful, adventurous, and romantic world our characters live in: the dream itself. The film will be shot in the English language with a young, talented, and beautiful international cast. I strongly believe in this project’s great potential for international release due to its universal appeal and a subject which is both attractive and fascinating to a global audience.
